Our intentions were good, the weather was not. The Washington Township Historical Society’s first “Sunday at the Museum” program had to be postponed, but they are hoping for the best for February’s program.
On February 28th, WTHS member Phil Berg and his wife Lauri will present “Inside the Civil War with New Jersey’s 33rd Regiment.” They will portray a Zouave Captain and his wife as they share stories of the Jerseymen and their struggles in the Civil War. They will relate subjects such as recruiting, uniforms, weaponry, command, battle tactics and camp life of those engaged. Information on who fought and where they fought will be included. The program will begin at 2:30PM and is approximately 45 minutes long followed by Q&A.
The next scheduled program will be on April 17th. WTHS member Bob Pennisi will be presenting “Working on the Erie Lackawanna Railroad in the 1960s and 1970s”. Eileen Stokes’s January program on “Hamlets and Villages of Washington Township” has been re-scheduled for May 15th.
All the programs are free of charge but donations are always welcome. Refreshments will be provided and the Museum Gift Shop will be open. There are still copies of Washington Township, Morris County available for sale as well as other items. Pre-registration is required due to limited space at the museum. To register call 908-876-9696 or e-mail email@example.com. The Museum is located at 6 Fairview Avenue, Long Valley.
