Washington Township (Dutch Valley) Walking Tour

Join Washington Township Historical Society to learn more about the area's early settlement and pieces of the past that still remain.
Step back 250 years and discover why settlers chose this location, what priorities shaped their community, and which buildings were built first.
Stand before what was once the village’s iconic stone fortress—its walls an impressive three feet thick—and hear the legend of
when George Washington slept there.
Learn how this small settlement grew in importance and why Washington Township—the first in NJ to be named after George
Washington—is regarded as historically significant today.
The May 2 Walking Tour, sponsored by the Washington Township Historical Society, will begin at the Society’s museum, located at 6 Fairview Avenue, Long Valley, NJ 07853. Free parking is available just three minutes away at Zion Lutheran Church, 11 Schooley’s Mountain Road, Long Valley. Tours will depart at 12:00, 1:00, 2:00, 3:00, and 4:00 p.m. and will run approximately 30 to 40 minutes. Guests are warmly encouraged to explore the museum’s collections either before or after their scheduled tour.
